Right then, this will be my last post for a while as we are off to rushes in the morning (stopping at Dover tomorrow night). Will hopefully have a few good pics and reports to add to Scots posts on here when we get back.

A little review from our week at Rushes by my daughter. They enjoyed this first trip so much it was a joy to see and read.

Rushes Lake

France

2008

Saturday 9th August 2008

We arrived in France at a place called Rushes Lake at twenty-five to three. This is were we go fishing with my family. The first thing we done was set up the tents and put all the stuff in that we needed for the week, by the time we finished it was time for tea, we had meatballs and spaghetti. After tea we made teams, Me, Aimee and Dad were in one and Grandad, Craig and Ashley in another and at the end of the holiday see who caught the most fish. We were defiantly going to win. It was an early night for us all. We were in bed by nine thirty.

Sunday 10th August 2008

When we woke up we had breakfast. We had egg and bacon sandwiches which were really nice. We casted are rods out and in an instant second Charlotte caught a fish but when she reeled it in she lost it. We hadn�t caught a fish all day until half five Aimee caught a fish, it was a catfish weighing 13lb 10oz. After abit Grandad caught a common carp weighing 5lb 12oz. We then rested for abit. After tea we fished some more, Craig caught a mirror carp weighing 22lb 3oz, I caught two catfish weighing 12lb 13oz and 9lb 11oz. At the end of the day we brought our rods it but still stayed up late.

Monday 11th August 2008

We woke up very early to start fishing again. It was really cold, we could see the mist on top of the water but soon after breakfast it brightened up. Craig caught a mirror carp weighing 6lb 3oz. Aimee, Me and Dad moved to a different peg only for the morning. Dad caught a mirror carp weighing 15lb 11oz and two minutes later Grandad caught a mirror carp too weighing 14lb. For lunch we had a sandwich - it was scrumptious, then we started fishing again. At 13:05 Ashley caught a common carp weighing 6lb 6oz, fifth teen minutes later Grandad caught a common carp weighing 7lb 11oz, soon after Craig caught a common carp weighing 7lb 2oz. There team was catching fish like fly�s. We weren�t. We were waiting for the big-uns. At 15:45 Ashley caught a common carp weighing 3lb 10oz. Two hours had passed and no one had caught a fish but Grandad came lucky and caught two common carp at 17:20 and 17:30 both weighing 4lb 11oz and 16lb 11oz. After dinner we waited and waited for a big 30 but it never happened. Grandad, yet again caught a common carp at 22:25 weighing 7lb 11oz.

Tuesday 12th August 2008

Dad fished most of the night and caught a 17lb catfish at 00:12. It was another early morning at Rushes Lake, unfortunately no one caught a fish for the whole day. After dinner, we all pulled lucky. Craig caught three fish within an hour. At 20:35 he caught a common carp weighing 9lb 11oz, at 20:50 he caught a mirror carp weighing 17lb 5oz and at 21:40 he caught another common carp weighing 6lb 2oz. I caught two fish in five minutes. At 21:55 I caught a mirror carp weighing 25lb 10oz. A personal best. As soon as I casted my rod back out I had another scream from the buzzer. At 22:00 I caught a common carp weighing 23lb 5oz. Another great weight. My sister Aimee also caught a lovely mirror carp at 22:40 weighing 20lb 10oz. A personal best for her. She was extremely proud to catch such a heavy fish. By 23:00 we were all tucked up in our beds under our sleeping bags. It was a cold night.

Wednesday 13th August 2008

We woke up at half six to start fishing. Grandad caught two fish before breakfast. At 7:45 he caught a common carp weighing 5lb, at 8:00 he caught another common car weighing 4lb 8oz. Breakfast soon came round, we had an egg, bacon and sausage sandwich today because Iain thinks were special. An hour later Ashley caught a common carp weighing 7lb 7oz. At twenty past twelve Grandad caught a mirror carp weighing 5lb 10oz. At 12:40 Dad caught a mirror carp weighing 12lb 10oz and fifth teen minutes later I caught a common carp, only a tiddler, it weighed 7lb. Grandad and Craig also caught various fish. Grandad�s fish weighed 6lb 8oz, 5lb 2oz, 6lb 3oz and 8lb 10oz. Craig�s fish weighed 5lb 3oz and 13lb 10oz. At 15:50 Ashley caught a catfish weighing 15lb 2oz. Time passed and Ashley yet again caught another fish weighing 8lb 8oz. Aimee caught two fish within five minutes, both commons weighing 6lb 12oz and 5lb 11oz. It was then dinner time and we all enjoyed the lovely meal Kim prepared. Ashley, Me and Grandad caught the last fish/twig of the evening. Ashley caught a catfish weighing 7lb 7oz, I caught the twig which was way bigger that the one Grandad caught last time he came to Rushes and Grandad caught a catfish weighing 13lb.

Thursday 14th August 2008

We woke up around half seven to start fishing, no one caught anything till eleven thirty. Ashley caught a common weighing 4lb 4oz and another fifth teen minutes later. At 14:05 Aimee caught a mirror weighing 19lb 8oz. For dinner today we had croissants and pan au chocolate - they were really nice =). Unfortunately our log doesn�t state the other fish we caught later that day but I don�t think it really matters because of everything I�ve mentioned already.

Friday 15th August 2008

More fishing we did today plus it was a bonus, it was Grandad�s birthday. Dad caught the first two fish before Me and Aimee woke up, they were only tiddlers weighing 5lb 2oz and 10ld 6oz. Grandad also caught a fish weighing 4lb 8oz, only a baby. At 8:30 Grandad caught his heaviest fish of the week, it was certainly a birthday treat, it was a mirror carp weighing 20lb 3oz. Soon after he caught a heavier fish that his other one, wasn�t he getting lucky, it was another mirror carp weighing this time 25lb 7oz. At 11:30 Aimee caught a common carp weighing 18lb 13lb. Craig caught two fish, both commons weighing 6lb and 7lb 3oz. At half two I caught a catfish weighing 8lb 9oz. We had lunch, because we were hungry. After lunch Ashley caught a catfish weighing 15lb 7oz. He was really happy because it was 5oz heavier that his other 15lb catfish. At 17: 50 Dad caught a mirror carp weighing 25lb 10oz. His heaviest fish of the holiday. Me, Ashley and Aimee went to set up Grandads surprise party. We made lots of banners and we blew up balloons. Kim and Iain had a photo of us three children with our heaviest fish. She stuck it onto a lovely background of the house. It looked really good and we were sure Grandad would like it. Kim also baked him a chocolate cake which look scrumptious. Aimee rang the bell for dinner. Me, Ashley and Aimee had already sat down at the table waiting for Grandad to come round. When he saw everything we�d done he nearly fell over. We had decorated his chair with a surprise banner and five balloons. We had a lovely dinner and birthday cake for pudding, he was really surprised and loved it. At the end Kim and Iain gave him the picture and he loved it, we also had a family photo against the wall with the banner Happy Birthday Grandad. Soon after we started fishing again. Craig caught two fish, one mirror and the other a common. The mirror weighed 8lb 7oz, and the common weighed 7lb 8oz. I caught a mirror at 20:40 weighing 22lb 9oz. Dad at 21:10 caught a catfish weighing 9lb 10oz and at 21:50 Ashley caught a catfish, the final fish of the holiday, it weighed 9lb 8oz.

Saturday 16th August 2008

Today was the last day we spent at Rushes Lake. We packed really early and everything was in the car before breakfast. For breakfast we had a cup of tea or coffee and a bacon and egg sandwich. We bought Kim and Iain some wine and flowers top say thank-you, and then we went home.

Overall this was a fantastic week which we all enjoyed very much. The fishing was great fun. We also like to thank Kim and Iain for gorgeous food and a wonderful week. It�s a holiday to remember. Grandad�s team won on who caught the most fish with a total of 260lb 6oz, Dad�s team with a total of 193lb 2oz but we caught the heaviest fish. Once again thanks to Kim and Iain for the wonderful food and a fantastic week at Rushes Lake. =] =] =] =] =].

there is an article on rehydrated baits in carpworld this month.

used to fish with em on a cray water, just rehydrate with something and the carp love em, you seem to get better hook holds where they are really chucking them back to the farangle teeth to crush them, a great edge on some waters

you can kep them for donkeys i put them in a paper bag with some grains of rice to absorb any moisture after thoroughly air dried

It's that time of year this year has been a very good spawning year for the Roach now that this years Roach fry will be say 2in long and competing with all the other silver fish eating the blood worm and so on so there will be a massive amount of competition for food in some lakes so they are tuning to what ever is available i have maby 20 clients who have phoned me in the last 2 month saying the same thing.
